Definite articles

  • In English, the definite article is "the", both for the singular and the plural. Example: the sun, the stars.

  • In French, there are three forms of the singular definite article and only one form for the plural.

  • Definite articles are used to talk about a unique or specific person or thing
    play:le président=sounds/lepresident.wav
    play:le soleil=sounds/lesoleil.wav (the sun)
    play:la lune=sounds/lalune.wav (the moon)
    play:les étoiles=sounds/lesetoiles.wav
    play:la classe de français=sounds/classedefrancais.wav
    play:les étudiants de la classe de français 1=sounds/etudiantsfrancais.wav

  • In French definite articles are also used to express possession
    play:la table de Robert=sounds/tablerobert.wav
    play:la table de Marguerite=sounds/tablemarguerite.wav
    play:le sac de Marc=sounds/sacmarc.wav
    play:le sac de Virginie=sounds/sacvirginie.wav
    play:les professeurs de Mt. SAC=sounds/profmtsac.wav
